About the project

The Knot was developed as a conceptual proposal for the Iceland Volcano Lookout Point competition. Inspired by the existing circular route around the volcanic crater, the design extends the path into a continuous spiralling lookout, allowing visitors to experience the dramatic landscape from an ever-changing series of viewpoints before seamlessly rejoining the original trail.

Alongside the architectural concept, a collection of photorealistic still images and cinematic animations was produced to communicate both the proposal and the atmosphere of the Icelandic landscape. The visuals explored the interplay between architecture, terrain and weather, capturing the experience of ascending through the structure before revealing panoramic views across the crater and the surrounding volcanic landscape.

"The proposal extends the existing crater path into a continuous architectural journey, allowing visitors to experience the landscape from an entirely new perspective."

"Every image and animation was developed to capture the scale, atmosphere and changing conditions of one of Iceland's most dramatic landscapes."
