About the project
The Guemes Island Bathhouse is a wellness retreat designed for the Guemes Island Resort in Washington's San Juan Islands. Conceived as a collection of three distinct timber-clad volumes rather than a single building, the architecture is carefully woven between the existing trees, allowing the surrounding forest and views of the Puget Sound to remain the defining feature of the experience.
A series of visualisations were produced to communicate the relationship between the architecture and its landscape. Particular focus was placed on the project's restrained material palette, the atmospheric woodland setting, and the sequence of spaces that guide visitors between heat, water and open air. The imagery was developed to capture both the architectural intent and the calm, immersive character of the retreat.
""Rather than a single monolithic building, the facility is conceived as three distinct charred-wood boxes placed within the forest.""
